Geri Horner’s fans laud her acting as she recites Queen Elizabeth I speech in YouTube debut

The first episode of Geri Horner’s brand new YouTube series, Rainbow Woman, launched on Sunday – with the singer bravely reciting a speech as iconic monarch Queen Elizabeth I.

Despite having already teased the series with a video featuring Geri, 48, dressed as the Tudor ruler, the Spice Girl surprised fans with the debut episode – The Queen Speaks – in which she fully committed to acting in the role.

Made up in pale powder, with her ginger locks styled like the queen’s, and wearing a crimson and gold dress with a velvet corset and intricate embellishment, Geri was seen arriving via horse-drawn coach to Ashridge House, where the scene was filmed.

‘An improvement on Spice World The Movie!’ The first episode of Geri Horner’s brand new YouTube series, Rainbow Woman, launched on Sunday – with the singer bravely reciting a speech as iconic monarch Queen Elizabeth I

Embodying the stern queen, Geri was seen fully committing to the role, delivering her stirring speech while brandishing a silver sword.

‘It has been said that I have the body of a weak and feeble woman, yet the heart and stomach of a king,’ she says.

She goes on to tell the unseen recipient of the speech that ‘understanding a woman is a knot you will never untie’, before it’s revealed she is merely practicing on her pug dog – dressed in a Tudor ruff.

She adds, ‘Never forget, we’re a charge of light charging through that despairing reign. I have work to do!’ before storming off.

‘Though she be but little, she is fierce,’ Geri finishes, before dubbing the Elizabeth I ‘a Queen of girl power and a rainbow woman!’

The picturesque episode was shot in collaboration with BAFTA-winning cinematographer Laurie Rose, who has worked on Peaky Blinders and Riviera.

Fans flocked to the comments underneath the video and on social media to laud Geri’s scene, with one noting that she had ‘vastly improved’ since her acting days in Spice World: The Movie, the film the girl group released in the 1990s.

‘Your acting has improved massively, well done,’ another remarked, followed by someone else who posted: ‘Geri… you’re acting so well on this video! I’m impressed and very proud of you!’

‘Loved this! Something a bit different!’ another wrote, followed by: ‘Absolutely iconic!’

In a personal message to her fans, Geri added the note: ‘Hello you! For the last twenty-five years, we’ve been on an amazing journey together. I want to share something from my heart… something real, something I hope will inspire.

‘Rainbow Woman is my love letter to you. It’s about sharing our spirit. I’m taking you on a girl power adventure of discovery. Together, we go up a mountain, down the river and back in time…

‘And with music I wrote, it’ll be a 360 experience, for you, for us, for everybody. Thank you for being there for me. I want to be here with you … for all the rainbow people. With love, Geri.’

The mother-of-two has written, directed and executive produced the series, which is slated as ‘a collection of vibrant vignettes following her on big and little adventures, each hued with humour and their own message of hope and positivity.’

In the trailer she is seen sailing, driving an army tank, hanging out with an elephant, riding her beloved horse Beauty, attempting beekeeping and becoming emotional at times.

Her children Bluebell, 14, and Monty, three, also make an appearance, as well as her mother Ana Maria.

A new episode will be unveiled every Sunday on Geri’s YouTube channel with bonus content for fans to follow.

Queen Elizabeth I ruled over England throughout the Tudor period, succeeding her sister Mary I on the throne from 1558 to 1603.

Known for her signature red hair and refusal to find a husband, she became known as ‘The Virgin Queen’ for ruling the country without a man at her side.

Geri would not be the first star to play the legendary Queen, with Cate Blanchett taking on the role in 1998’s Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age in 2007, with both films earning her Academy Award nominations for Best Actress.

In 2018, Margot Robbie also transformed into Elizabeth in Mary Queen of Scots, receiving a nomination for a BAFTA Award.

It was reported in The Sun in September, that Geri is focusing on a new children’s series which will celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.

She is expected to release a range of children’s fiction books following the success of her first novel, Ugenia Lavender, which sold 250,000 copies over five months after it was released in 2008.

It is likely that her intriguing video project is linked to her upcoming books as they are promoted under the Rainbow Woman banner.
