Nicole Kidman had a ‘husband and wife’ demeanour with Hugh Grant before The Undoing

She has captured fans’ attention with her gripping performance as therapist Grace Fraser in HBO’s miniseries The Undoing.

And Nicole Kidman has revealed she already had a ‘husband and wife’ demeanour with Hugh Grant before they co-starred in the psychological thriller.

Appearing on The Graham Norton show, which airs on Friday evening, the Australian actress, 53, said she has known the Love Actually star, 60, for more than 30 years.

Close friends: Nicole Kidman said that it was ‘very apropos’ for to be starring as the wife of Hugh Grant in The Undoing as they already ‘sort of have that demeanour together’

She told Graham, 57, that it was ‘very apropos’ for the long-time friends to be playing a husband and wife of ’10 years’ as they ‘sort of have that demeanour together’.

Nicole has never worked with Hugh before, jokingly saying that regardless of his talents, the BAFTA-winning actor is ‘famous for not wanting to work’.

She continued: ‘We’ve known each other since our early 20s.

‘We’re friends and our paths have crossed, so it was very apropos to be playing a husband and wife that have been married for 10 years because we sort of have that demeanour together.

‘I’ve always wanted to work with him, and I have always been a big fan. When the director suggested him, I thought he would never do it because he is famous for not wanting to work.

‘He says he doesn’t like working but he is so good when he does – he is amazing.’

Gushing about her co-star’s talent while promoting The Undoing, Nicole teased that despite Hugh’s reluctance to work ‘he has a lot of children now who he has to support’.

The Big Little Lies actress was referring to Hugh’s five young children, who he has welcomed in nine years after previously living a carefree lifestyle.

Nicole impressed with her vocal talents in Baz Luhrman’s 2001 musical spectacle, Moulin Rouge! and sung the timeless classic Dream a Little Dream of Me for her latest project.

Despite her impressive voice, Nicole told The Sydney Morning Herald earlier this month that singing was not a comfortable space for her.

‘I can’t do with my voice what I can do when I act and that’s very frustrating,’ she confessed to the publication.

‘With performance, there’s the possibility I may not get there. But at least I know I can try to reach it.

‘With voice, I just can’t. I wish I could sing what I feel.’

Nicole is a mother-of-four and shares her two eldest children, Isabella, 27, and Connor, 25, with her ex-husband Tom Cruise, who she split from in 2001.

The Eyes Wide Shut actress married her husband Keith Urban in 2006 and they had two daughters, Sunday, 12, and Faith, nine, together.

The Undoing, based on the 2014 novel You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz, premiered on October 25 and is available to watch on HBO On Demand.

Nicole is joined by Kylie Minogue, Strictly’s Nicola Adams, comedian Jason Manford and actors Josh O’Connor and Emma Corrin on the Graham Norton Show.
