Jeannie Mai gives update four days after epiglottitis surgery: ‘No speaking and no chewing!’

The Real co-host Jeannie Mai appeared to be in good spirits four days after undergoing emergency surgery for epiglottitis, which had ‘closed at least 60%’ of her airway.

The 41-year-old Daytime Emmy winner Instastoried a snap of herself on Thursday standing up in the hospital captioned: ‘No speaking, no chewing, no bad T-shirts.’

Jeannie is ‘forever grateful’ to Beverly Hills laryngologist Dr. Shawn Nasseri, who identified her potentially life-threatening condition, which started as a sore throat.

Mai was ‘absolutely devastated’ to have to withdraw from the 29th season of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars over the ailment, and she shared a video on Monday’s episode.

‘I found out that I have a throat abscess, where my tonsils and my throat had gotten so infected that it started permeating to the rest of the areas behind my neck and my ears that I had to get emergency surgery, which is why I’m here now,’ the NoCal native explained.

‘I’m just so thankful I had the experience on Dancing with the Stars. It was hands down one of the best journeys of my life, so thank you so much and I love you guys.’

Luckily, Jeannie has her fiancé of eight months – four-time Grammy-nominated rapper Jeezy – supporting her by her bedside.
