Zac Efron heads to South Australia to star in a new film for Stan 

Zac Efron continues his love affair with Australia as he signs up to star in locally produced taut thriller for Stan

Zac Efron has been lying low in Byron Bay, Australia amid the coronavirus pandemic.

And the American actor looks set to continue his stay Down Under for at least a few months, as he signs on to star in a locally produced film for streaming service Stan.

It was announced on Friday that the 33-year-old will head to South Australia this month, to film new Stan Original Film, Gold.

Also starring Susie Porter, Gold is based on a screenplay Anthony Hayes co-wrote with Polly Smyth. 

Set against the backdrop of a vast, unique and unforgiving landscape, Gold is a taut thriller about greed and the lengths people will go to secure themselves a fortune. 

When two drifters travelling through the outback stumble across the biggest gold nugget ever found, the dream of immense wealth and greed takes hold.

They hatch a plan to protect and excavate their bounty with one man leaving to secure the necessary equipment. 

The other man remains and must endure the harsh desert climate, preying wolves and intruders, while battling the creeping doubt that he has been abandoned to his own fate. 

Stan, the unrivalled home of Australian original productions, announced on Friday that the Stan Original Film Gold will start filming in South Australia this month, premiering on Stan in 2021.

The film will be released in cinemas through Madman Entertainment with Altitude Films handling worldwide sales of the film.

While in Australia, Zac has also made headlines with his love life.  

Zac reportedly met part-time model Vanessa Valladares, 25, in July, when she was working at the Byron Bay General Store café and the Light Years restaurant.

The couple have been inseparable ever since, enjoying a trip down to Sydney in October and a skiing holiday in Thredbo in September.   

Zac has been residing in Byron Bay since March amid the coronavirus pandemic. 

He reportedly extended his tourist visa to stay in Australia and is even rumoured to be looking at buying property in the area. 

Stan’s Original Film Gold will premiere on Stan and in cinemas in 2021.
