Gregg Wallace is ‘looking forward to a second lockdown’ after hailing the first one ‘brilliant’ for his health and fitness

Gregg Wallace is looking on the bright side of the UK’s second lockdown.

The MasterChef: The Professionals star, 56, is said to be welcoming of the new commands from Boris Johnson to ‘stay home’, as COVID-19 stats rise up once again.

The Mirror reports that Gregg said: ‘Lockdown was the first time ever in nearly 20 years that I had complete and utter control over everything that I ate. It was amazing.

‘Because normally… you can walk in on MasterChef and the directors go, “Right, we’ve got a pudding challenge today”. And you go, “But there’s eight of them?”

‘And if you’re on the road, you’re eating whatever the hotel has or whatever the location caterers [make]. But to be at home eating whatever I wanted was brilliant.’

As of Thursday, the UK faces a month minimum of lock down, in a repeat of March’s national shutdown.

Gregg – who has lost four stone in recent months after overhauling his diet and exercise regime – showed off his fit new physique as he posed in a traditional Bavarian costume for an Instagram snap on Wednesday.

He looked in great spirits as he modelled the garb, yet gave no reason for wearing the unusual attire.

Gregg was decked out in an emerald green hat and waistcoat with gold brocade shorts and socks.

The star left his followers in hysterics as he captioned the shot: ‘Bavarian Gregg’.

Although his four stone weight loss was clear to see, the look was far more covered up than the shirtless snap he recently shared in honour of his 56th birthday.

The MasterChef host previously admitted that his younger wife Anne-Marie Sterpini, 34, was one of the reasons behind him shedding the pounds as he didn’t want her to have a ‘fat old husband’.

Gregg also said he wanted to be ‘fit and healthy’ for their young son Sid, 16 months, after doctors warned him he was heading for a heart attack if he didn’t change his ways.

Speaking to Closer magazine, Gregg who also has two grown-up children with ex-wife Denise, says his youngest child gave him the ultimate motivation to overhaul his physique.

He said: ‘Having my baby boy made me want to be fit and strong. I can now go for long walks, which I wouldn’t have been able to do before.’

The TV star married wife Anne-Marie in August 2016 at a luxurious ceremony in Hever Castle in Kent.

And Gregg noted that it is the almost 20-year age difference between them which further drives him to be fit and healthy.

He continued: ‘Anne being younger than me was even more of an inspiration to be fit – you can have an old husband but she didn’t have to have a fat, old husband.’

Aside from looking good for his wife of four years, the presenter received a big wake up call when he was informed he had dangerously high cholesterol and was at risk of having a heart attack.

After dropping down to 12st, Gregg keeps up his weight loss with regular work-outs five times a week.

MasterChef: The Professionals starts on November 10 at 9PM on BBC One.
