Victoria was then seen with the medical team who are on hand to assist the group, as she told them about a pain she felt in her arm whenever she tried to pull the oar towards her.

‘It’s right in there,’ she explained, pointing to her forearm. ‘I feel like when I apply force with my legs I can’t push hard enough.

‘The more I go the worse it’s getting, which is frustrating because they need me.’

Victoria’s fellow contestants Jodie Kidd, Tom Watson, and Craig Charles were still rowing the boat, with Tom saying: ‘She seemed to be in a lot of pain, we might have lost her.’

Back with the medical team, Victoria was seen taking a turn for the worse as she told them she didn’t ‘feel well all of a sudden’.

The medics asked if she meant she wanted to vomit, but the track cyclist suddenly collapsed and had to be carried to the ground as she shook involuntarily.

Put into the recovery position, Victoria was monitored by the medics as they let her rest for a few hours in order to regain her strength.

One medic said: ‘Victoria’s starting to feel faint in the early stages of the expedition, if they’re not drinking, eating, resting properly it’s going to have a marked effect on them.

‘I think Victoria is going to have a prolonged rest, after having some hours of sleep, something to eat and drink then we’ll see how we’re getting on.’
