Kirsty Gallacher has revealed her hatred of fancy dress was a factor in her divorce from ex-husband Paul Sampson who ‘loved’ dressing up.

The television presenter, 44, claimed she can’t stand fancy dress and has never been to a themed party because refuses to go on any ‘gimmicky nights out’.

Admitting it may be one of the reasons behind their split, she said: ‘My ex husband loved fancy dress and possibly why, that could have been one of the reasons why we split, the dealbreaker.’

‘That did it for him and me. He loved nothing more than a fancy dress party and would be like “brilliant”. I think it’s a certain type of person That likes fancy dress. It literally makes me feel a bit nauseous.’

However there is a high chance that Kirsty won’t be out on the tiles whether it’s fancy dress or not, as he revealed she is usually in bed by 9pm.

She said: ‘I felt a bit nonplussed. If I’m not in bed by 9pm it’s very strange. I’m very boring. I’ve got a ten year old Jude and I want him in bed by nine pm and Oscar is weekly boarding. If Oscars at home he can stay up in his room a bit.’

During her time on Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 when she was partnered with Brendan Cole, Kirsty had to endure fancy dress on a couple of occasions.

Including for the Halloween episode of the dance show, where she dressed up as a vampire while dancing the Charleston to Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance.

Discussing her dislike for the themed nights as Halloween draws near, she said: ‘I hate fancy dress and stupid stupid murder mysteries and things.

‘Let’s talk about fancy dress. I hate it. I hate, hate, hate gimmicky nights out and I’m not coming. I hate it. I absolutely hate it. Call me boring, but fancy dress hate, gimmicky things, murder mystery hate.’

‘At numerous parties I start quivering because I think what do I have to do? Do I have to do anything. I never have participated in a fancy dress party.

‘I just can’t be bothered with it. Horrific. Horrendous. Literally my last memory of fancy dress was, well, there are two memories. I love her music and I went as Madonna to a party when I was about ten and I went as Whitney Houston another time.

‘I didn’t look anything like her but thought I was Whitney Houston when I was under twelve. I must say I’m not into all that. I love dressing my kids up but I’m not into it.

‘I get a bit cringed about things. I do my job and I’m a different person, but I come from a journalistic background. I’m doing a job to find out more and get it across to listeners.

‘When you get to that party and you have a stupid costume one you are talking to someone with a glass of drink and it’s just stupid. There’s no conclusion.’

‘There’s no reason. You are dressed as a penis and talking to someone dressed as a smurf. I’m not into showiness. I’m not a showy person at all. It doesn’t end well at all. I hate gimmicky nights out. It’s straightforward.’

‘Are you coming out? Yes – dinner drinks whatever. Don’t do anything stupid in between. Don’t make me bloody dress up.’
