Emma Willis asked Blue singer Simon Webbe to ask now-husband Matt out for her

Emma Willis has revealed that she instigated her romance with now-husband Matt, after meeting him at MTV.

The presenter, 44, worked at the music channel early on in her career, where she met Matt, now 37, who was performing with his band Busted.

Speaking in an exclusive clip from Shopping With Keith Lemon, Emma tells the comedian: ‘It was behind the set, he was walking past, I was walking somewhere else. And I thought, underneath all that make up, he’s actually quite cute.’

Remarking of his quirky look at the time, she added: ‘He always had quite interesting hairstyles!’

She went on: ‘Then we met with a bunch of mutual friends. That was the first time I talked to him properly outside work.’

Asking whether there was any ‘snoggage’, Emma confirmed: ‘There was a bit of smooching.’

She went on to explain that they didn’t see each other for a while after that but then she spotted him on Ant & Dec’s weekend TV show one night.

‘Then I saw him on Saturday Night Takeaway. I thought I had a lot of fun with him [when we hung out before]. Blue [the band] were also on Saturday Night Takeaway.

‘So I called Tim Cash, from MTV news, who knew [Blue singer] Simon Webbe, and got him to pass my number on to Matt.’

‘So you made the first move?’ Keith clarified. 

‘Yeah. And [Matt] made me wait three days to call me back!’

Commenting on ‘game playing’ in dating, she added: ‘I don’t get that whole playing the game thing.’

To which Keith added: ‘We don’t have enough time on Earth for that!’

Emma and Matt married in 2008 and now share children Isabelle, 11, Ace, eight, and Trixie, four.
