Lindy Klim hits back at criticism over her new ‘pampering’ range of vagina masks

Balinese socialite Lindy Rama-Ellis (nee Klim) has just released a controversial new line of $25 vagina masks for women.

And the 43-year-old proved it was an absolute passion project for her while speaking about it on podcast, Bali Interiors Stories.

Lindy explained her new FIG Femme was designed by her after having her children.

‘After having four children, and I had them all naturally, I know what happens down there,’ she said, during the interview.

The fashion designer said she likes to create something ‘new’ with her surprised the marketplace was empty of products that service women.

Lindy said the product is a ‘face mask’ for the vulva with her offering three separate products: a post-birth mask, C-section strips and a ‘restore’ mask.

‘I’m doing post birth. It is kind of an ice pack, you can put it in the freezer,’ she explained, with it aimed to help alleviate being ‘swollen and uncomfortable.’

She continued: ‘I also have C-section strips for people that have had a c-section. That helps with the healing of your scar.’

She then spoke about the ‘restore’ mask, which is more for ‘date nights’: ‘That is to get you ready for your date.

‘Having your glass of wine. Face mask here and vulva mask on.’

Self-care: The masks are aimed at the growing self-care industry, with Lindy adding she hopes they start a conversation on 'women's bits'

Lindy revealed she would be bringing out other products in the line but it was equally important to start breaking the taboo around ‘women’s bits’.

‘I want to have that conversation…[for women] to talk about their women bits… It’s important to talk about what’s going on there.’

It comes after Australian sexologist Dr Nikki Goldstein argued that gynaecological concerns should always be dealt with by medically trained professionals, not ‘intimate wellness’ companies.

‘If there is something that doesn’t feel or seem right, it’s a doctor that needs to be consulted, not a beauty brand,’ she said.

Nikki also suggested that ‘intimate’ beauty products are problematic because they suggest that there is something inherently wrong with a natural-looking vagina.

‘Women need to be educated on how to keep their vulvas healthy, not given another so called wellness product,’ she said.

‘Whilst I encourage more open and positive talk about women’s sexuality and their bodies, I am concerned that vulva masks might make many women feel more self conscious about this part of their bodies, [and making women believe] there is now something they need to do to improve it,’ she warned.

‘It’s ok to have blemishes on your vulva. We should be getting to the point of embracing our vulvas just the way they are and focusing on keeping them healthy, not ‘improving’ their appearance,’ she added.

Despite this, Nikki believes that Lindy’s yet another example of a beauty brand profiting from women’s insecurities.

Fig Femme’s spokesperson rejected Nikki’s suggestion that the masks are a way to profit from female insecurities.

‘We are proud of our progressive product and we take pride in encouraging an open and honest dialogue, promoting female self-confidence, breaking down the typical taboo connotations associated with the notion of vulva shame and any female insecurities,’ the spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.

‘At FIG Femme, we are not recreating the wheel, there are already female intimate products out there but they seem to be hidden at the back of bathroom cabinets or the bottom of the shopping basket.’

‘We wanted to create a range of products that women could feel confident to purchase – because why shouldn’t they?’ they added.
