In a statement Williams’ representative said: ‘Brandon Williams is aware of rumours circulating on Twitter. Brandon vehemently denies any wrongdoing whatsoever.

‘The allegations posted on Twitter are false and defamatory. We have urgently raised these matters with Twitter.

‘Brandon has instructed his legal team to take the action that they think necessary. We will not hesitate to bring proceedings against those who choose to repeat the false and defamatory allegations.’

The video is thought to show a TikTok of a direct message sent by Williams to what is purported to be a teenage girl – but it is understood to have been made using a fake app.

This morning trolls targeted Williams’ Wikipedia page, briefly updating it to call him a ‘n**ce’.

MailOnline has contacted Williams’ spokesperson for further comment.

In August, the 20-year-old signed a new contract at Manchester United that will tie him to the club until 2024 with the option to extend it by another year.

The left-back, who hails from north Manchester, also became the face of Puma’s new Future 5.1 football boots and City Pack collection.

Williams, then 19, launched the sporting giant’s kit which featured the Manchester worker bee emblem.

Williams has played for the club since the age of seven, coming through the academy before making his debut in the 2019-20 season.

Speaking in the summer, he said: ‘Signing this contract is another really proud moment for myself and my family.

‘Having been at Manchester United since I was seven years old, it’s genuinely a dream come true to be playing in the first team.

‘It has taken a huge amount of hard work to reach this point and it has been really special for me to break through into the squad. I’ve learned a lot throughout the season from the manager, his coaching staff and my team-mates and I want to repay the trust that they have all shown in me.

‘I know that everyone at the club is working really hard every day to achieve success in the coming years and I am really excited to be a part of that.’
