Nicole Kidman says Hugh Grant is ‘fascinated’ with the ‘secret language’ she uses with her sister

Nicole Kidman says her The Undoing co-star Hugh Grant is ‘fascinated’ with the ‘secret language’ she uses with her sister Antonia

Nicole Kidman and her sister have a special bond.

The Aussie actress revealed just how close she and younger sister Antonia are during a chat with WSJ Magazine Editor in Chief Kristina O’Neill, presented by Tiffany & Co.

While there promoting her new HBO limited series The Undoing, Nicole, 53, admitted she and Antonia have their own ‘secret language.’

Speaking in code: Nicole Kidman revealed she and her sister Antonia have a ‘secret language’ while talking about working with Hugh Grant on the new HBO limited series The Undoing

The topic came up after Kidman was asked about her connection to co-star Hugh Grant.

Recalling how they first met over two decades ago, the Big Little Lies talent said: ‘I’ve known him since we were in our early 20s. We went to dinner at a place in London called The Ivy with his then girlfriend Liz Hurley and my sister and just a huge bunch of people and we just kind of clicked.’

That night Hugh became fascinated with Nicole and her sister’s special style of communicating.

Kidman explained: ‘My sister and I were speaking our secret language and who was like fascinated because my sister and I have this language that we can speak so we can be understood in a crowd and nobody can understand us.’

O’Neill prodded for a bit more information but the Moulin Rouge star only laughed saying: ‘If I end up telling you then you’ll be able to decode it.

Nicole called the secret language ‘silly’ but said it’s always come in handy.

‘It is helpful, let me tell you. It was really helpful when we were like at parties and they were and we had our boyfriends and stuff we would be able to use our language and they’d all be like “What?”‘

‘It’s a really good tip all the sisters out there,’ she went on.

Hugh also recently talked about being introduced to Nicole and Antonia’s language during that same night in the 90s, telling Entertainment Weekly: ‘What I remember most was that she was very nice, charming, but when she spoke to her sister, she spoke in a secret language.

‘And I said, “Excuse me, are you speaking in a secret language?” And they both said, “Yes.” And it’s weird, it sort of goes “eggy-peggy this, eggy-peggy that,” and they still do it.’

During Kidman’s chat with WSJ Magazine she also talked about life during the pandemic.

Asked what she’s learned through the experience she said: ‘Live in the moment.’

‘I will never take for granted the idea of walking into a crowded room and dancing to music and going into a hospital, being able to go in to see your loved one in the hospital and be there for them. … There’s just so many things,’ she said.
