Here’s your chance to own a rare Black Panther comic that has skyrocketed in value over the last couple of years.

Nathan D. Sanders Auction is putting a — Black Panther comic #1 — up for grabs on Thursday, October 29, with the opening bid starting at $8,000; although it’s likely to garner a far more heftier price.

The unique selling point: the comic was signed by the blockbuster film’s late star, Chadwick Boseman, as well as by the film’s director Ryan Coogler and Marvel Comics legend and Black Panther co-creator, the late Stan Lee.

The comic, a Middle East-Comic Con variant, measures 8.125” x 13′ and scored a 9.8 grade by CGC Signature Series.

Both Boseman and Coogler signed the cover in black felt tip pen, while Lee signed it with a silver felt-tip.

Interestingly, Boseman added the number ’42’ next to his autograph, in a reference to his starring role as baseball legend Jackie Robinson in the 2013 film of the same name. 

Robinson, who was the first African American to play in Major League Baseball (MLB) when he debuted with the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947, wore the jersey number 42 during his career.

With all those unique selling points, the $8,000 starting bid could top upwards of $25,000 when the auction ends, according to TMZ.  

Boseman received widespread praise for his role as T’Challa / Black Panther in the 2018 film that turned into a blockbuster at the box office, raking-in $1.347 billion worldwide on a $200 million budget.

It has since become the ninth-highest-grossing film of all time and the third-highest-grossing film in the U.S. and Canada.

The superhero movie received seven nominations at the 91st Academy Awards, including Best Picture, winning three awards for Best Costume Design, Best Original Score and Best Production Design. 

Diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016, Boseman largely kept his condition out of the public eye, all while continuing to act as he received treatments.

He would eventually pass away from complications related to the illness on August 28, 2020, and was laid to rest near his hometown of Anderson, South Carolina.
