A jealous wife has been jailed after slashing her husband with a knife as she chased him out of the house because he had received a text message on his phone.

Janeen Pugh, 48, ran after Wayne as he left the property in Beddau, South Wales, and cut him once on the hand with the seven-inch weapon on April 9.

A court heard last Friday that the couple were sat on the sofa when Mr Pugh received a message on his mobile.

Claire Wilks, prosecuting, said Pugh became ‘aggressive and demanding to know who it was’.

Mr Pugh showed his wife the phone but she accused him of being a ‘f***ing liar’ – and threw it at his face before chasing him.

As he banged on a neighbour’s door for help a struggle ensued and she managed to slash him with the kitchen knife.

Ms Wilks said: ‘Mr Pugh feared he would be killed’.

Cardiff Crown Court heard officers found a text message on her phone sent to a friend saying: ‘I’ve stabbed Wayne’.

Peter Donnison, defending, said alcohol and their ‘volatile’ relationship played their part in the incident.

He added she has had a ‘real wake-up call’ and described her as a ‘hard-working woman’.

Recorder Greg Bull QC sentenced Pugh, of Beddau, South Wales, to 25 months in prison after she pleaded guilty to wounding and possession of a knife.

Sending her down he said: ‘You and your husband have been together for many years and in recent years that has become a stormy relationship.

‘You pursued him out of the house. During the chase you used that knife a number of times.’
