Twenty people are hurt including 11 taken to hospital after 14-car pile-up on the M40 in Buckinghamshire

  • Seven ambulances attended the scene assisting 20 casualties, 11 hospitalised 
  • Incident took place on the M40 southbound between junctions 4 and 3, 5:44pm
  • Eleven are being treated for serious and minor injuries in Wexham Park Hospital

Eleven people have been badly injured in a fourteen car pile up on the M40.

The incident took place on the M40 southbound between junctions 4 and 3, Handy Cross and Loudwater, at 5:44pm this evening. 

Seven ambulances attended the scene assisting 20 casualties, 11 who sustained serious and minor injuries are were taken to Wexham Park Hospital, Wexham, Buckinghamshire. 

A South Central Ambulance Service spokesman said: ‘SCAS were called this evening at 17:44 to the M40 between junction 4 and 2 southbound, to a collision involving approximately 14 vehicles.

‘We had on scene seven ambulance crews, two paramedic officers, tactical advisor and two Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART).

‘They have been assessing over 20 casualties, 11 have been taken to Wexham Park Hospital with serious or minor injuries. Other casualties were assessed at the scene by our crews but did not require hospital treatment.

‘SCAS teams have been working alongside colleagues from Thames Valley Police and Buckinghamshire Fire to respond to this multi-vehicle collision.’ 

Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service said in a statement earlier this evening: ‘Crews are working to release two people who are trapped. Four to five miles of standing traffic London-bound.’
