Mum’s genius hack using toilet paper makes the bathroom smell incredible in SECONDS

‘Why did I never think of this?’ Mum’s ‘genius’ toilet paper trick leaves the bathroom smelling incredible in a matter of seconds

  • An Australian mother has invented trick for keeping the bathroom smelling fresh
  • She puts a few drops of essential oil in the cardboard toilet roll in the toilet
  • The essential oils leave a lasting scent, in her case tea tree, in the bathroom
  • She has tested it out in all of her bathrooms and found it to be a luxury addition
  • Others were just as excited by the idea and have decided to try it themselves

An Australian mother has shared her genius trick for keeping all three of her bathrooms smelling fresh in seconds.

‘If using essential oils (can be any but I personally use Doterra) place one drop of your chosen scent into the cardboard holder inside the toilet paper roll,’ she wrote on Facebook alongside a photo of the tea tree scent she used.

‘I currently have a fresh scent of tea tree going on in all three bathrooms and I have five males in the house… winning!’

The woman wasn’t sure whether the ‘hack’ had been shared before online but only discovered it yesterday, and was still enjoying its effect 24 hours on

She reminded those who wanted to try it that there is no need to apply the oil directly to the tissue paper, and that the scent is strong enough on the cardboard.

It didn’t take long for others to want to try it for themselves, congratulating the lady for coming up with such a ‘unique’ idea.

‘How can I be the age that I am and have never heard of this idea? It’s brilliant. I’m excited to go and try it right now,’ said one grateful woman.

Others thought lemongrass and orange scents would work well in any toilet area.

But one pet owner warned that certain essential oils can be lethal around dogs and cats.

Essential oils and pets: The facts

* Essential oils are made from highly concentrated plant substances.

* They can cause chemical burns if your pet licks just a few drops.

* The vapours can also irritate your pet’s skin.

* Cinnamon, eucalyptus, oregano, thyme, basil, tea tree, wintergreen, citronella, ylang-ylang and clove bud are considered the most dangerous to dogs and cats.

* Chamomile, frankincense, ginger and lavender are considered safe to be used around pets.

Hot oils like cinnamon, eucalyptus, oregano, thyme, basil, tea tree, wintergreen, citronella, ylang-ylang and clove bud are all off the cards if you have a pet in the house.

These oils are phenol-rich which pets, cats especially, cannot digest.

Peppermint should also be completely avoided as it can cause liver damage if accidentally ingested in large quantities.

Chamomile, frankincense, ginger and lavender are considered safe to be used around pets.
