‘I didn’t have good choices’: Nicole Kidman hints that a career slump made her jump into producing – and starring in – HBO series Big Little Lies

She’s the Oscar-winning actress known for starring in critically acclaimed movies like The Hours, Bombshell and Moulin Rouge!

And while Nicole Kidman has landed plenty of great roles since launching her career as a teenager, she’s now hinted that this hasn’t always been the case.

‘I went through a huge period of time when I didn’t have good choices,’ the 53-year-old told Australia’s Who magazine.

‘So many actors don’t have choices, and to even have a choice is an extraordinary opportunity,’ she added.

This creative slump prompted Nicole to ‘control [her] fate’ by producing her own show, Big Little Lies, alongside Reese Witherspoon.

‘As an actor you’re always at the mercy of others, directors especially, and sometimes it can be frustrating,’ she said, adding she ‘felt the need to create something from the ground up’.
