Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr. defend Chris Pratt after actor is roasted on social media

The Avengers are starting to assemble.

Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr. defended their Marvel costar Chris Pratt on Tuesday after Pratt was called out on social media for his lack of speaking out about political issues amid the fast-moving times.

Pratt’s costars in the Marvel Cinematic Universe were quick to defend him after social media users questioned why he was not more engaged politically with his huge platform as one of Hollywood’s biggest names.

Ruffalo, a passionate voice on the left in show business, advised his followers to lay off Pratt and refocus on the upcoming presidential election.

‘You all, @prattprattpratt is as solid a man there is,’ the I Know This Much Is True actor said. ‘I know him personally, and instead of casting aspersions, look at how he lives his life. He is just not overtly political as a rule.

‘This is a distraction. Let’s keep our eyes on the prize, friends. We are so close now.’

Downey defended Pratt’s character amid the controversy.

‘What a world… The “sinless” are casting stones at my brother, Chris Pratt,’ Downey said, calling Pratt ‘a real Christian who lives by principle’ and ‘has never demonstrated anything but positivity and gratitude.’

Downey also noted Pratt’s marriage to Katherine Schwarzenegger and the extended Kennedy family. 

‘AND he just married in to a family that makes space for civil discourse and (just plain fact) INSISTS on service as the highest value,’ said Downey. (Katherine earlier this month called a tweet from President Donald Trump minimizing the danger of coronavirus ‘trash’ and has said she’s voting for former Vice President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.)

The A-list actor had ‘a novel idea’ in doling out advice for those criticizing Pratt: ‘If you take issue with Chris,’ he said, ‘Delete your social media accounts, sit with your OWN defects of character, work on THEM, then celebrate your humanness… @prattprattpratt I #gotyerbackbackback.’
