Inside SAS Australia’s centre of hell: Explore the small town where Seven’s reality show is filmed – from rugged terrains to gruelling conditions and FREEZING temperatures

Channel Seven’s SAS Australia sees 17 celebrities complete gruelling challenges in a small town in rural NSW called Bobundara.

It is located 40 minutes from popular holiday destination Jindabyne and is within the local government area of the Snowy Monaro Regional.

Bobundara has a population of just 13 residents and with filming having taken place in August, the conditions were often freezing.

The winter high temperature for nearby Jindabyne is 4 degrees celsius, while the low temperature is approximately -3 degrees.

The terrain is harsh and very rugged but mountains and lakes in nearby towns attract hikers and water enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, the actual camp site proved to be extremely basic and was far removed from any neighbouring signs of civilisation.

The show’s base camp was created using corrugated iron structures which provided little warmth for the show’s contestants.

Built on an isolated sheep station, there was originally no structures on the camp site with the buildings erected for the show.

At the end of each bed was a metal trunk with a bucket on top, and a row of wooden drying racks lined the centre of the room.

During Monday night’s premiere, the shell-shocked stars were brought to the cold and barren accommodation after a day of gruelling challenges.

‘This is your wash basins. This is where you wash yourselves and also your cutlery and your pots and pans from eating with. Happy?’ barked Directing Staff Jason ‘Foxy’ Fox.

Candice Warner and Ali Oetjen exchanged horrified glances as they were shown the rusty-looking troughs, which had been set up on the mud ground.
