Schoolboy, 10, dies and second is fighting for life after BMW hits two youngsters on same bicycle – as man, 30, is arrested

  • The accident happened shortly after 6pm on Monday in Hull, Humberside
  • A male witness described seeing the two boys lying in the road after the crash
  • One boy died after being rushed to hospital, the other is receiving treatment
  • The family of the deceased boy are being supported by specialist trained officers

A schoolboy aged 10 has been tragically killed and a second is fighting for his life after the pair were struck by a car.

Both youngsters were on the same bicycle when they were knocked down by a blue BMW in Hull on Monday evening around 6pm.

Humberside Police said in a statement: ‘Emergency services attended and the boys were taken to hospital for treatment for life threatening injuries.

‘One of the boys sadly died a short time later. His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.’

The second victim is reported to be in a critical condition in hospital.

A male witness who saw the crash described how he saw two boys lying in the road follwoing the accident.

He said: ‘It was horrible, awful. The emergency services were there and they were trying to help the boys.’

A badly damaged bike was seen at the side of the road close to a severely damaged hatchback. The crash scene has been closed off to carry out forensic work.  

The police statement continued: ‘A man, 30, has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences in connection with the collision, he remains in our custody whilst enquiries continue.

‘Officers from our serious collisions unit are appealing for anyone that witnessed the collision, who has not already spoken to us, to please get in touch. 

‘They are also keen to hear from anyone that saw either vehicle prior to the collision or anyone with dashcam footage from driving in the area at the time.
