Dave ‘Hughsey’ Hughes reveals he has undergone surgery to remove two cancers from his arm and shoulder – and urges others to get their skin checked ahead of summer

Dave ‘Hughsey’ Hughes has undergone surgery to remove two skin cancers from his arm and shoulder.

The 49-year-old told the Herald Sun on Tuesday, he had ‘a couple of cancers cut out’ and also had treatment for his ‘sun damaged facial skin’.

‘I got my skin checked and had a couple of cancers cut out. There were parts that had to be sliced and diced, but I’m all good,’ he said.

He explained: ‘If you get skin cancers cut out early, it doesn’t lead to other things.’

Dave also urged others to get their skin checked ahead of summer, especially if they notice anything abnormalities.

‘There’s no time to hold back on getting checked because of COVID-19. Doctors are waiting to check you now,’ he said.

In a video shared to the Hughesy and Ed Instagram page, Dave is seen lying on the operating table.

The five-minute video then shows graphic footage of the radio host’s skin cancer being removed.

‘This is such an important subject, especially in Australia! Get your skin checked!’ he wrote in the caption.

In 2016, Dave also had skin cancer excised from his back and kept his fans informed about his well-being by sharing details of his skin surgery.

The comedian posted a photo of himself triumphantly holding up three containers – each filled with green liquid and a piece of severed cancerous flesh taken from his back.

‘Skin cancer be gone,’ he wrote in the caption, with the hash tags: ‘Thanks medical science’ and ‘Sun smart’.
