‘I should have worn a mask’: Today show host Alex Cullen’s sore throat sparks concern as he reads the news bulletin with a croaky voice

Today show host Alex Cullen sparked concern among viewers when he struggled to read the news bulletin on Monday.

The 39-year-old was presenting news about the latest coronavirus figures in Victoria when his voice became crocky, promoting his co-star Karl Stefanovic to ask him why he sounded different.

‘Excuse my voice please, folks,’ he told viewers.

Karl added: ‘Can you explain it because people at home might be concerned about you?’

Alex then revealed he had a sore throat because he was breathing in ‘particles’ while sanding back painted walls at his home over the weekend.

‘I was breathing it in. I should have worn a mask. I do normally but I was in a bit of a rush,’ he explained.

‘I hope @alextcullen’s voice is ok!’ one fan wrote and Alex responded, ‘Thanks! I’ll be ok. Never sand filler without a mask!’
