Radio host Chrissie Swan says Melbourne’s lockdown was getting a ‘bit long’

A subtle swipe at Dan? Radio host Chrissie Swan admits Melbourne’s lockdown is getting a ‘bit long’ as she welcomes the easing of some restrictions

Chrissie Swan is just one of many embattled Melburnians who have been forced to weather the strict lockdown conditions in the city over the past few months.

And with restrictions slightly eased on Monday, the radio presenter revealed just how she managed life under the rigid conditions.

Speaking on Channel Seven’s The Morning Show, the 46-year-old told hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies she was proud of her fellow Melbournians for sticking the tough lockdown, saying: ‘Victorians have done an unbelievable job bringing down numbers.’

‘But it does feel like it’s getting a bit long in the tooth now, but we’re nearly there,’ she added.

Chrissie also corrected Kylie who thought the easing of the restrictions meant that she and family and friends in their homes, which is not the case.

‘No, we’re not allowed to go to anyone’s house,’ Chrissie said, ‘We can meet in the park and play some golf and have a haircut.’

‘We can get a haircut, and our nails did in about two weeks. It’s baby steps,’ she said.

Elsewhere, she talked about juggling home schooling her three children with her radio work and joked: ‘I’ve lost my mind, and it was a slow losing of the mind.’

‘And I think the shock of suddenly becoming a stay-at-home mum, a full-time breadwinner and teacher – all in one go – has really taken its toll on women in the state,’ she said.

While Melbourne may have only slightly eased lockdown and small COVID case numbers, Chrissie is hopeful that Victoria is heading in the right direction back to normal.

‘I think it is going to be positive. I’m really optimistic for it. We have still got really low numbers and everyone is doing the right thing so could be a thumbs up emoji for October,’ she said.

The Victorian capital’s strict lockdown was eased on Monday, with hairdressers and barbers allowed to open their doors.

There is no longer a time limit on outdoor exercise, gatherings of 10 people outdoors are permitted and Melbourne’s travel limit has been extended from 5km to 25km.
