Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez endorse Joe Biden for president in a video chat

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez made their support for former Vice President Joe Biden official on Friday by announcing their endorsement of him.

The 51-year-old singer and actress and the 45-year-old baseball star both appeared remotely from separate locations in a video chat with the 77-year-old presidential candidate and his wife Jill Biden, 69.

Biden established the casual tone of the video from the start after he urged Rodriguez to call him and his wife by their first names.

They’re with Joe: Jennifer Lopez, 51, and Alex Rodriguez, 45, joined together for a video chat with Joe and Jill Biden to endorse the former VP

‘We’re thrilled and we’re excited to vote,’ the athlete continued. ‘I think our voice has never been more important.’

He listed his immediate priorities as defeating the coronavirus pandemic and restoring the economy.

‘For me, it’s unifying the nation again,’ Lopez joined in. ‘You know, getting rid of this hate. Thinking about my kids walking around in a world where, you know, it’s OK to be racist or prejudiced because our administration says it’s OK. That to me is really sad.’

She added that the Latinx community was hit particularly hard by COVID-19.

Biden then stated that Latinx people were three times as likely to contract the coronavirus as white people, while three million people were currently unemployed and 200,000 people covered by the Dream Act were frontline workers.

He touted the trillions of dollars that the House of Representatives had passed for pandemic relief, though the Senate has refused to pass it and instead has offered a drastically smaller bill with even less money for pandemic relief than what President Donald Trump is recommending.

Lopez jumped back in to say that her ‘hope and quest for the Latino community is that they start understanding their power. They understand what they mean to the country, that their vote counts.’

Jill said that if she had ‘the honor of being the next first lady, Latina women will have a seat at the table.’

‘And in the cabinet,’ Joe interjected.

Jennifer jumped back in to say that ‘family and faith’ were important values in her community, and she asked the candidate how they affected his life.

‘Well, they’ve been my whole life, both of our lives, not a joke,’ he began.

Biden attributed some of his support among the Latinx community to him being a practicing Catholic, which he said was ‘all about family.’

Both Alex and Jennifer capped off the video with short messages in Spanish to their fellow Floridians, which they translated in the subtitles.

‘Jennifer and I are very happy to go to the ballot and vote this year,’ the former Yankee began. ‘It is very important because our community needs help more than ever.’

‘More than ever, you have the power,’ Jennifer stressed. ‘The Latino community is going to determine what is going to happen in this election. You have the power.’

Jennifer, who has been dating Alex since early 2017 and got engaged in March 2019, previously criticized Donald Trump’s strict immigration policies during February’s Super Bowl, though she didn’t mention the president by name.

The couple are among the many stars who have thrown their support behind Biden, who served as the vice president to Barack Obama.

Most recently, Deadline reported that former late-night host David Letterman would be hosting a virtual fundraiser for the candidate in conjunction with Senator Kamala Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff.

The event, which will be held on October 22, has tickets starting at $500 and going all the way up to a stunning $25,000.

The proceeds from the fundraiser will be going to the Biden Victory Fund.

Letterman’s successor Stephen Colbert will also be hosting a Biden fundraiser earlier in the week, and and even Letterman’s old nemesis Jay Leno has hosted events for the former VP.

Next week, Harris will be joining Justin Timberlake and Ashley Judd for a fundraiser.

Comedians from the cast of the cult comedy classic Wet Hot American Summer will also be hosting a live reading of the film to raise funds, while some of the cast of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel will hold their own fundraiser.
