The Bachelorette’s Becca Kufrin, 30, is freezing her eggs after split from fiance, Garrett Yrigoyen

The Bachelorette‘s Becca Kufrin is freezing her eggs following her split from fiance Garrett Yrigoyen last month.

On Wednesday the 30-year-old took to her Instagram story to talk about her decision and answer questions about the process.

‘I am in the process of freezing my eggs,’ she told her 1.2M followers, after she shared a round of videos of herself getting shots the night before.

Making moves: The Bachelorette’s Becca Kufrin, 30, shared on Instagram that she was freezing her eggs. ‘I’m not old, but I’m not a spring chicken, and I want kids one day,’ she shared. The decision comes a month after her split from fiance Garrett Yrigoyen, 31; seen in 2019

‘Last night was the first night for the shots, but I figure, I want to try to document it and share it with you guys,’ she shared.

Kufrin added that she felt the need to share more, after she received a slew of DMs asking her why she was doing it.

‘It’s so important as women we know about our bodies and our options, and for me, I’m not old but I’m not a spring chicken, and I want kids one day but not anytime soon, so I figure why not do it now in quarantine,’ she continued.

She encouraged her followers to leave questions and join the discussion if they were also doing it, or wanted to know more.

Injections: Kufrin shared that the 'injections are the hardest part,' while posting videos of herself trying to do it. She added later that she was still having trouble getting 'the needle through the skin'

After a day at a winery in Santa Ynez, Becca shared a video of her second round of shots.

‘Got some good news and only 1 injection is needed,’ she wrote, before adding that she was having trouble doing it, as she ‘almost couldn’t get the needle through the skin.’

She then gave a shout out to all the ‘bad a**’ women’ who had done IVF and given themselves shots.

Spring chicken: Though only 30-years-old, Becca joked that she was not a 'spring chicken' and wanted kids one day, just not now

Let's chat: Kufrin revealed that she had received a lot of DMs from women, and wanted to open up the conversation

Egg freezing: The Bachelorette beauty shared with her 1.2M followers that she was available to answer questions about the process

WHAT IS EGG FREEZING?

Egg freezing, also known as ‘mature oocyte cryopreservation,’ is a method used to save women’s ability to get pregnant in the future.

Eggs harvested from a woman’s ovaries are frozen unfertilized and stored for later use.

A frozen egg can be thawed, combined with sperm in a lab and implanted in your uterus (in vitro fertilization).

For women under 30, at least 12 eggs are frozen.

Women typically ovulate one egg each month, representing one chance at a possible pregnancy—so 12 eggs represents about a year’s worth of fertility.

Because the majority of women under 30 are able to get pregnant within a year, freezing 12 eggs gives those women a 65–85% chance of motherhood with those eggs later on.

Becca also clarified that she was not doing IVF – in vitro fertilization – but was doing the ‘IV part,’ before asking her doctor to clarify.

The news comes just a month after her split from her fiancee Garrett, who won her heart on Season 14 of The Bachelorette back in 2018.

Kufrin went on her podcast, Bachelor Happy Hour, which she usually co-hosts with former Bachelorette, Rachel Lindsay  to share the news

‘I don’t think it’s going to come as a shock to anyone, but Garrett and I have decided to end our engagement,’ she said.

She continued, ‘Garrett and I came to this decision after many conversations.

‘It wasn’t just something we just arrived at one night.

‘It wasn’t based solely off of one Instagram post or somebody else’s opinions or comments.

‘There’s much more to it.’

One such catalyst was revealed to be Garrett’s support of the Blue Lives Matter movement, instead of supporting Black Lives Matter.

She continued to speak to her audience, talking about relationships in general, before sharing that she would be keeping some things to herself.

‘To any relationship, there’s a lot of layers. It’s not for me to divulge details.

‘It’s no one’s business other than what I’m telling you right now.’

Becca continued to say that she and Garrett had spoken, and both felt they were lucky to have found love, despite the circumstances.
