Singer Sia is getting used to being a mom.

The Australia native, 44, opened up to InStyle about parenting after she announced earlier this year that she’d adopted two teenage sons, one of whom she had seen ‘on a television documentary’ who were aging out of the foster care system.

‘The truth is becoming a mom has changed me in every way,’ Sia said. ‘I’ve learned how to be patient and compassionate. I’ve learned how to set strong boundaries. I’ve learned that as a single parent I need a great support system so I can ask questions about what’s normal and what’s not. I’ve learned what it means to unconditionally love another person.’

Good times: Sia, 44, opened up to InStyle about parenting after she announced earlier this year that she’d adopted two teenage sons, one of whom she had seen ‘on a television documentary’ who were aging out of the foster care system.

She added: ‘I’ve already started thinking about adopting more kids. And I’ve realized that this is exactly the way that motherhood was supposed to happen for me.’

The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter said she tries not to spoil her sons, who are both 19.

‘I could’ve been the kind of parent who said, “I’m a rich pop star. You guys can have a hundred grand each year for the rest of your life,” and then not really give them any attention,’ Sia said. ‘But that’s not the kind of person I am. I actually only give them an allowance for groceries.

The Cheap Thrills artist said she didn’t initially show such restraint when she adopted her sons.

‘Of course, when I first adopted them, I bought them everything in the world,’ said the Elastic Heart artist, whose real name is Sia Kate Isobelle Furler. ‘But more importantly, I wanted to spend a lot of time with them to help reverse the conditioning they grew up with and guide them toward a meaningful life that they don’t ever have to be ashamed about.’

‘And I’ve realized over the past year that Che was meant to be my son too.’
