Former Neighbours star Nicola Charles, 50, reveals her horrific coronavirus battle which left her ‘gasping for air on the floor’ and says six months she ‘is still not over it’

Former Neighbours star Nicola Charles has spoken out about her battle with coronavirus in a candid new interview. 

The 50-year-old actress-turned-author said she’s ‘still not over’ the virus and it ‘took her down’ for over six weeks back in March.

Describing her experience on Studio 10, she said: ‘I felt a really strange fluttering in my veins.

‘I consider myself quite spiritual, and I had this overwhelming feeling that what was inside me wasn’t human.’

The mother-of-three added that during the lowest point of her illness, she found herself ‘gasping for breath’ on the floor on her hands and knees.

She also shared a photo of her self-named ‘zombie eye’ on Instagram, explaining that one of the symptoms is that her eye turned ‘totally red and zombified’. 

Even today, over six months on, and Nicola said the impact of the virus is still affecting her day-to-day life.

Fitness fanatic Nicola – who usually runs 26 kilometres a week at the time – added: ‘I’m still not over it. I’ve tested negative for a long time, but I would describe it as…

‘Really, being a runner you have this 10% which you rely on. That little killer instict, where you’re able to go that little bit further and push that little bit harder.’

She reluctantly added: ‘I’ve lost that.
