John and Toni Terry enjoy a weekend escape as they celebrate his sister-in-law Julie’s birthday with a clay-pigeon shoot in the country

John and Toni Terry made the most of a break in the domestic football calendar as they escaped to the country for a weekend of birthday celebrations.

The pair were on hand to help John’s sister-in-law Julie celebrate her special day in style with champagne, balloons and a specially organised clay-pigeon shoot.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, Toni documented their trip away with a series of images and videos from the day, including a snap of herself and John with matching rifles slung over their arms.

Captioning the posts, she wrote: ‘What a weekend. We had the best time as always!’

Julie – the second wife of John’s older brother Paul – later thanked followers for their birthday wishes after sharing another set of images from their weekend away.

‘Yes more pics sorry, but it’s just been the best weekend!’ she wrote. ‘Thank you to everyone who’s wished me Happy Birthday.’

The trip appeared to come at the perfect time for Aston Villa assistant coach John, with the Premier League side in the midst of a week long break to accommodate a spate of international football matches.

In August John became the latest footballer to get a family protection dog after being left ‘traumatised’ by a £400,000 raid at his £5million Surrey mansion in February 2017.

He took to Instagram to upload an image of his new Czech German Shepherd alongside the caption: ‘Welcome to the family.’

The dogs, provided by special protection dog company, Chaperone K9, are able to recognise and deal with a number of different threats, including home invasion, road rage and fighting off physical attacks.

John and Toni, who put their home up for sale in March, were left shocked when burglars defecated at the foot of their bed three years ago.

Darren Eastaugh, 30, Joshua Sumer, 27, Roy Head, 28, and Oliver Hart, 25, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit burglary between February 1 and March 27.
