Olivia starred as Tandy Bowen/Dagger, a teenager who finds out she has superpowers much like her co-star Aubrey Joseph who portrays Tyrone Johnson/Cloak.

‘I think I definitely needed some sort of pause / a reset,’ she said. ‘I needed to take a breather but I don’t want to take a break ever again.’

The first season of the ABC Family show aired in 2018, but was canceled in October 2019 after a second season.

‘I love what I do so much, and I’ve been saying, “if quarantine taught me anything it’s that I miss what I do so much,”‘ she said.

She admitted that the pandemic has ‘changed everything’ in her world and in the entertainment industry.

‘My job requires me to be around people all day long and the pandemic is making people stay away from each other,’ she said. ‘We all have had to adapt to the current situation in order overcome that challenge.’

Her new musical pursuit is not without challenges, but she’s trying to remain positive and focus on creating.

‘It’s definitely strange, especially not being able to perform, having that human connection is very important for me as a whole,’ she said.

‘Not being able to do that during the pandemic has been really challenging, but just trying to shift my perspective and be grateful for the people that are streaming and listening to it now and one day hopefully we will be able to do it together.’

Her new music with R3HAB focuses on ‘this chapter’ of her life before she heads back to work on Freeform’s psychological thriller Cruel Summer.

‘It all very much falls in line with the music I’ve been putting out, and with this chapter of my life,’ she said. ‘I have nearly spent the last year and a half – two years working on music and making it a mission of mine. It’s like a piece of art that I put together.’
