Sally Obermeder speaks for the first time about sacking from The Daily Edition

‘I certainly would never have left. That’s how much I loved it’: Sally Obermeder speaks for the first time about her sacking from Channel Seven after the demise of The Daily Edition

Sally Obermeder has spoken for the first time about the axing of The Daily Edition in June.

The 47-year-old journalist admits that she still has negative emotions about the cancellation of the Channel Seven afternoon talk show – and her departure from the network after two decades.

She told this week’s issue of Body and Soul: ‘Like any loss, you need some time to process it. It definitely took me by surprise. I still feel sad about it’.

Sally went on to say that she had no intention of leaving the show, or Seven, any time soon.

‘Sometimes I think change happens to you in order to allow the next thing to evolve, because I certainly would never have left. That’s how much I loved it,’ she said.

The show fell victim to COVID-19 budget cuts and Sally says it’s proof that her job was life any other.

‘A lot of people have said to me, ‘If you’ve being made redundant, I don’t feel so bad about my job.’

‘People look at people on television and think it’s the Holy Grail, and that you’re immune from anything normal happening, but I’m glad I’ve shown it can happen to all of us,’ she said.

She has now switched focus and is working with her sister, Maha Corbett on a new cookbook, Dinner’s Done.
