Bill Burr tries to become Saturday Night Live’s host AND musical guest in a new promo… hours after Morgan Wallen was dropped as musical guest

Bill Burr made a not-so-subtle pitch to be both the host and the musical guest of Saturday Night Live this week.

Burr, 52, was initially set to host alongside musical guest Morgan Wallen for the October 10 episode, but Wallen was dropped on Thursday when he was caught partying without a mask last weekend in Alabama.

While Burr didn’t address what happened with Wallen directly, he did ask if he could play his music this weekend, in the promo.

Burr was seen on the iconic SNL stage alongside Keenan Thompson, both wearing slightly matching dark blue jackets over black t-shirts.

They both stayed safe amid the COVID-19 pandemic with Burr wearing a grey face mask and Thompson wearing a black face mask.

The first of the two 15-second promos was more meta, with Burr acknowledging the host’s duty to make ‘the awkward promo.’

He asked Thompson, ‘how’s it feel?’ and he answered honestly, ‘Pretty awkward,’ which Burr acknowledged and added, ‘See ya Saturday.’

The second promo opened with Burr stating, ‘Hi I’m Bill Burr and I’m hosting SNL this week,’ before he went into his music pitch.

He turned to Thompson and said, ‘Hey Kenan, maybe they’ll let me do my music too,’ and Kenan replied, ‘Yeah, maybe.’

Burr asked someone off camera what they thought of him performing his music, and he was discouraged, stating, ‘That’s a no. Kind of hard to tell with the masks on.’

Thompson added, ‘I heard a clear no,’ and Burr said under his breath, ‘Yeah I saw it too.’

The final title card for the video only mentioned Burr, and not a musical guest, so it’s unclear who, if anyone, will replace Wallen.

Burr and Wallen were announced as the host and musical guest on October 2, though Wallen was spotted at a bar in Alabama partying without a mask on over the weekend.

SNL announced on Wednesday that Wallen was to be dropped as the musical guest, prompting Wallen to apologize with an Instagram video.

‘I respect the show’s decision because I know that I put them in jeopardy, and I take ownership for this. I’d like to apologize to SNL, to my fans, to my team for bringing me these opportunities, and I let them down… I think have growing up to do,’ he said.
