Zachary Quinto admits he had ‘misgivings’ about reprising his stage role for The Boys in the Band

Zachary Quinto has admitted he had hesitations about reprising his role for the film adaptation of The Boys in the Band, as he posed for a debonair shoot with Dujour magazine.

The actor, 43, who originally played Harold in the 2018 Broadway revival of Mart Crowley’s 1968 play, admitted he had ‘misgivings’ about returning to the character but looking back would have been ‘bereft’ if he’d turned it down.

Zachary joins a star-studded cast including Jim Parsons, Matt Bomer, and Andrew Rannells in The Boys in the Band, which depicts a group of gay friends thrown into turmoil when a closeted acquaintance arrives uninvited to their party.

The Star Trek star explained he’d fled relocated to New York from Italy at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, but is now living in Los Angeles.

Zachary admitted he originally doubted reprising his role from the Tony Award-winning revival of The Boys in the Band, but is now glad he agreed, after playwright Crowley passed away in March.

He said: ‘I had misgivings about it, but I said yes because of the actors and the collaborative spirit.

‘I would be so bereft had I not said yes. To watch this journey for him and experience it through him and be a part of the ensemble who brought this play to life was so profound for me.’

Despite much of his work being paused by the coronavirus crisis, Zachary added he’s embraced the opportunity to slow down from his busy schedule.

He said: ‘I am grateful for the chance to turn down the volume and have more space. And not feel so motivated by ambition and by what’s next. That said, I like that as well.’

In July, it was announced that Quinto will be joining the star-studded voice cast of the upcoming animated Amazon Prime Video series, Invincible.

Quinto is set to voice Robot, one of Grayson’s superhero allies, and Khary Payton will play Black Samson, a member of superhero alliance called the Guardians of the Globe.
