Suranne confirmed she was back filming Vigil when she shared a snap of herself on set and wrote: ‘Back safely on board Vigil @bbcone #worldproductions #sublife #scotland.’

In the series, Suranne stars as DCI Amy Silva who leads an investigation into the disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler and a death on board a trident nuclear submarine.

It comes after Suranne spoke about her experience on Coronation Street, where she played Karen McDonald for four years between 2000 and 2004.

Suranne claimed she was ‘used’ by Coronation Street after being encouraged to do risqué photoshoots.

The former soap star has admitted that it ‘wasn’t what she signed up to’ and insisted that ‘all soaps used their girls in that way’.

Speaking about when she joined the ITV show, she told the Give Me Strength podcast: ‘The first few months was about me being whisked off and put in a bikini in Barbados…

‘Then I was on a celeb special for Stars In Their Eyes, then put in a magazine with a bra and knickers on. They’d give you a glass of champagne to get you a little loose.

‘I remember thinking it was fun at first but I realised it wasn’t what I signed up to.’

Referencing some of the photoshoots she was convinced to appear in, she added: ‘There are some dodgy photos out there, there’s one in a diner where I am squirting ketchup and mustard.

‘I don’t think Coronation Street was alone in that. I think all of the soaps used their girls in that way.’

Suranne joined the Corrie cast as Karen and was known for both her on-off relationship with Steve McDonald, and her rivalry with Tracy Barlow, which culminated in a now-iconic scene on her wedding day.

Suranne left the cobbles and went onto success in high profile roles including in BBC’s Doctor Foster and Gentleman Jack.  MailOnline contacted ITV for comment.
