Macaulay Culkin recreates iconic Home Alone moment with an unsettlingly realistic face mask

Macaulay Culkin reminded people to wear their face masks in a laugh-out-loud social media post Thursday.

The Home Alone star, 40, recreated a memorable moment from the film by wearing a face mask mirroring Macaulay’s shocked, 10-year-old face while playing the pesky Kevin McCallister.

Culkin employed a bit of dark humor in the caption, telling fans: ‘Just staying Covid-safe wearing by the flayed skin of my younger self. Don’t forget to wear your masks, kids.’

Face off: Macaulay Culkin urged fans to wear masks while recreating the poster for Home Alone 2 with a slightly unsettling face covering

The novelty mask made it look like the Party Monster actor was clutching his face, à la the movie poster.

But the proportions were off ever-so-slightly, giving his mask an unsettling edge.

It seemed like Macaulay had some time to think about the scene, as he posed in front of a mini model of the Empire State Building in a nod to the film’s 1992 sequel.

While the scene is one of the film’s stand-out moments, director Chris Columbus revealed how the scream was actually ‘an accident,’ when celebrating the film’s 25th anniversary in a 2015 interview with Entertainment Weekly.

‘The iconic scream — the expression on the poster with his hands on his cheeks — that was pretty much an accident,’ the Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone director dished.

‘That was not written the way Macaulay performed it. I thought he was going to slap on the cologne and move his hands and scream.

‘But on the first take, he slapped his face and kept his hands glued to his face as if he had just put superglue on his face, and his hands stayed completely still as he screamed like the Edvard Munch painting.’

Chris was impressed by Macaulay’s instincts, adding: ‘That’s why he was such an interesting kid: No one else would have done that.’

The 1990 Christmas classic was a roaring success, earning $476.7million at box offices off of an $18million budget.
