Selena: The Series trailer drops as Netflix announces December premiere date

Nearly a year after Netflix dropped the first teaser for Selena: The Series, the streaming platform has released a new trailer as well as the premiere date for the highly anticipated show.

The drama stars Walking Dead’s Christian Serratos, 30, as beloved Tejano music icon Selena Quintanilla who was tragically slain in 1995.

Netflix is poised to debut the six-part series on December 4.

The brief new trailer is shot in black and white and set to the tune of Selena’s hit Como La Flor.

On the screen, brief glimpses of Serratos as Selena are flashed: her beaded fringe boots, her silhouette walking on stage, stepping up to the microphone. Intermixed are shots of an audience cheering her on.

‘When I see you singing on that stage, I still see the six-year-old girl singing in our backyard,’ her father Abraham says off camera.

The video is less than a minute and ends with a quick succession of shots of Selena on stage twirling and singing during a handful of performances.

Pasadena born Serratos looked every bit like the spitting image of the late Tejano superstar in the teaser for the upcoming limited series.

Netflix’s Spanish-language department, Con Todo, Tweeted out the trailer along with a caption that read: ‘Every legend begins with a dream Selena: The Series arrives December 4th, only on Netflix.’

Selena: The Series will stream in six-parts and will follow the Grammy winner’s rise to fame in ‘a coming-of-age story that chronicles the life-changing choices facing her and her family as she navigates fame and the music business,’ according to Netflix.
