Despite the promise of deep conversations on series topics with his guests this season, the trailer is mostly upbeat and fun.

It begins with Letterman being schooled on how to snap a selfie with Kim Kardashian, the woman who literally wrote the book on selfies.

‘Do you know what AirDrop is?’ the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star asks the bewildered host.

Later, during their formal sit down in front of a studio audience, things are much more somber between the two.

The trailer gives nothing away about the topic that brought the mother of four to tears and moves on to teasing what is to come with the next guest.

David explains in the clip that he’s ‘gratified’ to come back for an all-new season of his show with new guests because, he says, ‘the person in that chair is so much smarter than I am.’

Letterman is certainly getting schooled this year by musical and pop culture sensation Lizzo who shepherds ‘Dave-z’, as she calls him, through his first rap recording session and even tries to teach him how to play the flute.

‘Lizzo, I’ve never done this,’ he admits before clearing his throat. Sadly the clip cuts before David actually starts to rap.
