Danny Cipriani has revealed his fiancée Victoria Rose has tragically lost their baby at 24 weeks.

Taking to Instagram, the rugby star, 32, said that he was excited to become a father and that he and Victoria, 39, had even named their baby boy River.

He wrote: ‘At 24 weeks we lost River, our son. Was and is always going to be difficult, but we supported each other through it and found our love grew and got strong. ‘

He did not state when their loss happened but instead wrote a positive piece about how the couple had navigated their way through it.

Danny, who tragically lost his former partner Caroline Flack earlier in the year, wrote: ‘It’s been a challenging year, for many different reasons.

‘I’ve had to emotionally overcome and heal in different ways that I haven’t experienced before.

‘In doing so it brought up old trauma and wounds that were unresolved.

‘Then the most beautiful thing happened, I was going to be a father and I fell in love. Deeply in love.’

Danny also said: ‘For me falling in love was the scariest thing to do hence my behaviour over the years, she is the most magnificent, kind, wise, and beautiful person I’ve ever met,” he said.

‘This may seem a sad post, it isn’t. This break now from last season and reflecting is a special place to be.

‘I’m more determined than ever to keep growing learning and loving with my woman.

‘I’m also locked in to represent myself the best I can on the field which to this day I still don’t think I have done… The future is exciting it’s going to take hard work. I’m ready.’

Last month, Danny and Victoria sparked rumours that they may already have tied the knot following a whirlwind engagement.

Danny took to Instagram to introduce his new ‘wife’ to his followers, as he referred to her as Victoria Cipriani.

Alongside a stunning selfie of his other half, Danny wrote: ‘Introducing @victoriarosecipriani – pinch myself every day!’

Danny will become a stepfather to her two children, Jade Austin, 24, and a teenage son, 14, when the pair marry.

The sportsman will take on the role of step-grandfather after Victoria’s daughter Jade became a mum four years ago.

Danny’s fiancée gave birth to her first child when she was just 14, with the pair often mistaken for sisters now that Jade has a daughter of her own.

The pair went public with their relationship in June, with Danny saying the mental health campaigner makes him ‘the happiest man in the world.

WHAT IS A STILLBIRTH?

A stillbirth occurs when a baby is born dead after 24 weeks of pregnancy.

If a baby dies before 24 weeks of pregnancy, it is known as a miscarriage.

Not all stillbirths can be prevented, however, not smoking or drinking, as well as not sleeping on your back and attending all antenatal appointments can reduce the risk.

What are the signs?

Signs may include the baby not moving as much as normal.

Pregnant women should contact their doctor immediately if they notice a difference to their baby’s movement.

What are the causes?

Stillbirths do not always have an obvious cause but may occur due to complications with the placenta or a birth defect.

They are also more likely to occur if women suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes or an infection that affects the baby, such as flu.

Stillbirths are more likely to occur if women are having twins or multiple pregnancies, are overweight, smoke, are over 35 or have a pre-existing condition, such as epilepsy.

What happens after a stillbirth?

If a baby has died, women may wait for their labour to start naturally or they may be induced if their health is at risk.

Bereavement support groups are available to parents who have suffered stillbirths.

Some find it helpful to name their baby or take pictures with them.
