Padma Lakshmi whips up her own ‘at home Quickfire Challenge’ for her 10-year-old daughter Krishna

While it’s unclear when the next season of Top Chef will go into production, host Padma Lakshmi decided to do her own ‘Quickfire challenge’ with her daughter Krishna Thea.

The 50-year-old actress, author and activist had her 10-year-old daughter prepare a ‘mystery box’ of ingredients for the Quickfire Challenge.

The Quickfire Challenge on Top Chef is where a chef has a limited amount of time to prepare a dish that must meet a certain set of requirements, from selected ingredients.

‘We did an “at home Quickfire challenge. I think she liked it!’ Lakshmi said in the caption of her Instagram post, plus hashtags #LittleHands (her nickname for her daughter), #TopChef and #Quickfire.

‘Hi guys. So today, we are going to do our own Quickfire-like challenge and Little Hands is downstairs right now preparing the materials she’s going to challenge me with,’ Lakshmi began.

The actress and host then went downstairs to the kitchen, clad in a black top and blue jeans as she unveiled the contents of her mystery box.

The ingredients included a large box of raisins, a can of tuna fish, bread crumbs and other items, as Krishna says she has just 15 minutes to make this dish.

The video was then sped up showing Lakshmi cooking up a storm, set to Saweetie’s hit summer song Tap In.

After her time was up, Lakshmi tells her daughter what she made for the challenge.

‘So, I made you a mix of two dishes,’ Lakshmi began. ‘One is a tuna salad, one is a fruit salad, so I made a dried fruit and tuna salad with my mystery box of ingredients.’

Krishna digs in and takes a bite, with her mom adding, ‘make sure you get the perfect bite with a little bit of everything as she turns the camera on her daughter.

As she takes a bite, the surprised  Krishna is clearly impressed, stating, ‘That’s not bad,’ as her mom says, ‘That’s big praise coming from you since you really don’t like seafood.’

She then cut to a video of a snowboarder flying off a jump and giving a bystander on the ground a high-five in mid-air as the video comes to an end.

Lakshmi has served as the host of Top Chef since its inception in 2006, and she also stars in Taste of the Nation with Padma Lakshmi, which debuted on Hulu in June.
