‘It has started to make me question myself’: Emily Atack reveals she is sent ‘disgusting and sexually aggressive messages’ daily on social media

Emily Atack is sent ‘disgusting and sexually aggressive messages’ daily on social media.

In an emotional new article, written by the comedian for Grazia, Emily, 30, said she has seen a ‘huge increase’ in vulgar DMs since appearing on the 2018 series of I’m A Celebrity.

Writing candidly for the publication, Emily admitted that the messages have started to make her ‘question myself’ and she believes there is a ‘sexual harassment blind spot’ going under the radar.

The star said that she has ‘screen-shotted a few’, ‘laughed at them with friends’ and even shared them on her story so fans can have a ‘good old laugh’ at it with her.

Yet Emily added that the messages aren’t ‘always a joke’, she said: ‘It seems to be getting worse, as well as noticeably more disgusting and sexually aggressive.’

The Inbetweeners star shared that she has also found herself in ‘uncomfortable situations’ in the ‘real world’ with men exposing themselves, ‘grabbing her a**e’ and even following her home.

Emily said that she has always contacted the police and the scary incidents have been dealt with, but she hasn’t ‘even thought about’ calling authorities over the daily explicit messages she receives.

The star lamented the fact that men can now go online and ‘sexually harass’ women ‘silently’ and ‘anonymously’ without receiving ‘any consequences whatsoever’.

Emily wrote: ‘Why does my brain automatically tell me I need to just ignore the knot in my stomach, and forget about it? If someone said or did that to me in the street, I wouldn’t think twice about following it up.’

She added: ‘I know I’m not the only one. I know that it’s not all men who behave in this way. But whether you are in the public eye or not, I feel like there is some kind of sexual harassment blind spot which is going completely under the radar.’

Describing some of the people who send her messages, Emily said one man, who once harassed her with 12 DMs in one day, is a 53-year-old married person with children.

Emily ended her article by praising the ‘wonderful men’ in her life who look out for her and respect her.

She also said that she is one of the ‘lucky ones’ as she can usually ‘get on with my life’ but is aware of other women who are ‘crippled with anxiety’ over explicit messages.
