‘It was immediate’: Sam Armytage’s fiancé Richard Lavender says he fell for the Sunrise star the first time he met her despite not know who she was

Richard Lavender has admitted that he fell for Sam Armytage the very first time he laid eyes on her.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph at the Everest Carnival Fashion Lunch in Sydney on Friday, which the newly engaged pair attended together, the millionaire equestrian businessman was not shy in admitting his feelings.

‘It was immediate. This sounds really stupid but I thought, “gee whiz, I like that girl” from the moment I first saw her,’ he said.

Richard went on to say that he had no idea Sam was a television star, and felt comfortable with her right way.

‘I had no idea what she did or anything like that, which was probably a plus. You know when you meet someone and you feel comfortable,’ he said.

Samantha told the paper the pair are ‘very lucky they met’ because they have a lot in common – especially enjoying horse racing.

‘Whether we are watching the races at home or we are at the track, we really both very much enjoy the races and everything that goes with that,’ she said.

The journalist announced her engagement to Richard in late June this year.

Last month, the loved-up pair revealed their wedding plans had to be put ‘on hold’ due to the ongoing pandemic.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, she admitted the wedding may now be pushed back to 2021.

She told the paper that she hoped to have a large wedding, and the pandemic has made that impossible – hence the delay.

Sam said: ‘Because we want to have a party with more than 20 people, we have sort of put it on hold.’

She stressed that they will ‘get there’ but aren’t in any hurry.

The TV host added: ‘We will get married but put the planning on hold because there is no point until we can actually make a proper plan in booking anything so no plans yet but we will get there.’
