Olivia Culpo reveals she has an ovarian cyst as she asks for ‘pain remedies’

Olivia Culpo has revealed that she has an ovarian cyst after going to hospital with pain on her right side.

The beauty queen took to social media on Thursday to tell her followers that she ‘hasn’t been feeling well’ and to ask for tips on how to help with the pain.

It comes after Olivia, 28, discussed her endometriosis diagnosis last month and admitted she was ‘nervous’ to share the news with followers.

Taking to Instagram, Olivia said: ‘Haven’t been feeling well. A lot of you know I have endo and the other day I had pain on my right side.

‘Went to the ER and hello ovarian cyst! I was hesitant to share this but when I opened up about endometriosis I was shocked to hear how many women could relate.’

The brunette beauty went on to tell her fans to join her in ‘normalising conversation around reproductive health’.

She then asked if anyone has any tips on how to ease the pain caused by her cyst or if they knew any ‘natural remedies’ to help it reduce in size.

Olivia added: ‘I feel like it’s so important we support one another by normalizing conversation around reproductive health.

‘This stuff is not fun and we should not feel embarrassed to talk about it on top of it already being complicated at times.

‘With that said, does anyone have any pain remedies they recommend? Or natural remedies to make the size go down??’

Last month, the Sports Illustrated model said she was using a ‘holistic approach’ to tackling her endometriosis, which is a long-term condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows in other places.

Olivia said: ‘I’m trying to do the holistic route as of now. I want to try to see if I can figure some things out for myself, but we’ll see. It’s a journey.

‘Every month is different because I try different things every month. But I’ll definitely keep everybody posted on what works for me, and eventually having to get the surgery because it really depends. Everyone’s different.’

Olivia admitted she was ‘nervous’ about opening up about her health issues and she was ‘shocked’ how many women got in touch to share their similar experiences.

She added: ‘It was something that I was nervous to share because I really didn’t know if people would be familiar with the condition, and it turns out a lot of women are.

‘I was shocked to see how many women have also suffered from endometriosis, and how many questions women have about painful periods. They’re not normal, and they could get in the way of your fertility.’

The Miss USA 2012 and Miss Universe 2012 winner was diagnosed last year with endometriosis.

Speaking with People, Olivia said: ‘A lot of women may have painful periods, they may not be properly diagnosed. They may never be diagnosed. They may not be getting proper treatment, or surgery in some cases.

‘And then, they’re 50, 40 years old, and they had never been able to have children, and then you realize, “Oh, maybe I had had endometriosis that I was never properly diagnosed.” That’s a common problem that I want to be able to use my platform to help’.

She also advised women to get their egg count checked and to make sure that painful periods aren’t affecting either their ovaries or eggs.

‘Down the line, it’s so heartbreaking when you think about someone who maybe could have taken action earlier, and now they can’t have children. That to me just feels awful,’ she said.
