‘He’s incredibly annoying’: Matt Preston reveals his true feelings about former rival Manu Feildel ahead of the premiere of their cooking show Plate of Origin

Their new Channel Seven cooking show Plate of Origin premieres on Sunday.

And this week, former MasterChef star Matt Preston revealed how he really feels about new co-host Manu Feildel.

The food critic, 59, admitted on Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa radio show that he found his long-term former My Kitchen Rules rival to be ‘incredibly annoying’.

‘Yes, he’s incredibly annoying,’ he joked with hosts Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli and Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald.

‘He’s funny, he’s talented, he’s knowledgeable, he’s really good looking.’

‘We’re used to just being the chubby trio!’ he added, referencing his relationship with Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris over 11 seasons of Masterchef on Network 10.

While Gary will join Matt and Manu on the new show, George won’t, after a scandal-filled year that saw him fined $200,000 for underpaying restaurant staff by $7.8million between 2011 to 2017.

The program will see 10 teams from different countries compete in a World Cup-style culinary battle.

The countries represented in the competition include Australia, Cameroon, China, France, Greece, Italy, India, Lebanon, Venezuela and Vietnam.

In a trailer for the show, the three judges can be seen complimenting the teams on their impressive dishes.

The Seven Network had previously been forced to edit two of the show’s judges, Matt and Gary, out of promos due to ‘contractual issues’ with Channel 10, which owns the rights to MasterChef.

‘For contractual reasons, Seven is unable to publicly associate Matt Preston and Gary Mehigan with the new show,’ industry website TV Tonight reported in January.

Matt and Gary were also not named or pictured in Seven’s first casting call for Plate of Origin, and were instead referred to as ‘two of the world’s biggest food superstars’.

Their deal with Channel 10 expired in July, however, and they were promptly reinstated in Plate of Origin promos.
