‘I just had a real interest in it because my father was a Titanic expert,’ Paul elaborated during the episode.

‘That was how he made his living,’ he said of his late dad, Michael Rudd, who passed away in 2008. ‘Talking about the Titanic.’

‘So when they announced they were making this film I really wanted to get in on it for my dad. But no we were not in the running.’

In fact, in 2019 Rudd claimed he had actually helped to convince DiCaprio to take the now iconic role in the 1997 blockbuster.

During an interview on The Graham Norton Show in October, the father-of-two said while he was acting alongside Leonardo in the 1995 film Romeo + Juliet, ‘we all went out out to bar… I was riding to the place with Leo and he said, “I just got offered this movie and it’s a big movie.”‘

‘He was saying, “Well, I don’t know what I’ll do,” and I remember saying, “You should do it,”‘ recalled Paul.

‘I don’t think I had any say but it is kind of interesting to think back on that.’
