Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones credits her HAIRDO for acting success

‘I owe everything to my fringe!’ Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones credits her HAIRDO for acting success after new style led to life-changing screen roles

Daisy Edgar-Jones has jokingly credited her hairstyle for her acting success, after rising to fame on the critically-acclaimed TV show Normal People.

The 22-year-old actress has won legions of fans and award nominations for her turn as Marianne Sheridan, the girlfriend of Paul Mescal’s character Connell Waldron.

And the London native has revealed that her status switched from life as a jobbing actress to a bona fide celebrity coincided with her getting a fringe.

She jokingly told Grazia: ‘Genuinely, I feel like I owe everything to my fringe. I kept not getting roles and was having a crisis of: “Should I have gone to uni? Should I have gone to drama school? I’m never going to work again!”

‘So I got a fringe. Then literally the week after, I auditioned for War of the Worlds and I got it, and Normal People was my next audition. My fringe is everything. Everything.’

However, she has faced some challenges with maintaining her hairdo – something deemed necessary given her stream of online interviews.

She continued: ‘One of my flatmates, Kenny, cut my fringe – very well actually, which is good because it’s a very sacred part of my hairdo.’

Daisy’s efforts onscreen have seen her scoop a Best Actress nod for next month’s TV Choice Awards 2020, alongside Best Actor nominee Paul.

The screen star, who is in a relationship with Game Of Thrones actor Tom Varey, 29, watched her life change overnight when Normal People debuted in April – at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown.

‘It was wild,’ said the brunette beauty of her rise to fame while locked away at home with her boyfriend Tom and their two flatmates.

She added: ‘Do you ever have that feeling where you get off Zoom and think, “Did that conversation even happen? Was that real or some kind of video game?” Because you turn it off and you’re still there in your bedroom.’

Daisy’s schedule has picked up considerably more recently, as she’s returned to work on the second season of War Of The Worlds.

The actress admitted: ‘This is strange job to be on right now, because it’s all about aliens invading, and empty streets and the world‘s gone mad, and obviously that’s quite close to home at the minute.’
