Zack Snyder confirms Justice League: The Snyder Cut and releases first official teaser trailer

Mid-way through shooting the Justice League, he was forced to hand the directorial reigns over to Joss Whedon, which lead to the disappointment that was the 2017 film.

But director Zack Snyder, 54, confirmed during DC FanDome on Saturday that his own cut of the film, titled Justice League: The Snyder Cut, will debut on HBO Max in 2021.

Justice League: The Snyder Cut will premiere in four separate one-hour segments, but Synder promised that he and his team would ‘find a way of bundling it all together at the end.’

As if confirmation from the director’s mouth were not enough to excite Justice League devotees, the first official teaser trailer for the four-part film also premiered during DC’s virtual fan event.

DC’s ultimate super villain Darkseid (Ray Porter) is the first character to grace the screen with his flaming spear in hand, which he eventually slams into the earth.

The next scene reintroduces Henry Cavill’s Superman, who can be seen donning his famous red and blue get-up as he screams inaudibly on his knees.

The camera pans over the ruins of the Hall Of Justice, before Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman – wearing civilian clothes – is seen walking into an Amazonian temple.

Ben Affleck’s Batman, with crossed arms and squinted eyes, appears to be examining a hologram version of Superman, while sitting in his infamous Bat Cave.

Mamoa’s Aquaman makes a grand entrance that includes plenty of damage-inducing waves and an obligatory shirtless display.

The next few scenes of the trailer, shot in slow motion, show a football game taking place and then a joyous crowd cheering on their team of choice.

The trailer is structured like a montage with no clear narrative direction, so Cyborg (Ray Fisher) emerges without warning as he painfully relives his father’s demise.

As noted by Snyder during Saturday’s panel, Cyborg is the ‘heart of the movie’ and is considered as the one character that ‘holds the team together.’

As the trailer reaches a close, numerous battle scenes flash onto the screen, with many of them showing the Justice League characters united.

There is also a touching moment between Superman’s Clark Kent persona, his Earth mother, and Lois, where they can be seen embracing one another in a field.

In the only audible portion of the trailer, the Justice League appear to be having a team meeting – one that includes a very concerned Flash.

‘This guy has probably fought hundreds of thousands of other super beings on the other planets he’s destroyed, right? Then we have to assume he’s won,’ says Flash defeatedly.

In his husky Batman voice, Affleck closes out the trailer with this reply: ‘I don’t care how many demons he’s fought and how many hells. He’s never fought us. Not us UNITED!’
