Temptation Island production in Hawaii has been pushed back amid coronavirus crisis concerns from residents amid a spike in local numbers.

Maui’s Mayor Michael Victorino said in a news conference on Thursday that filming of the USA Network series, which was slated to be done at the Wailea Resort’s Andaz Maui in Maui, has been put on hold amid concerns about the pandemic, TMZ reported Thursday.

‘After speaking with the production company, Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, the ILWU hotel worker union and our County Film Office, we all agreed to delay production of the show at this time,’ Victorino said.

The Maui County Film Office said it would keep parties ‘posted as we attempt to flatten the curve of the Coronavirus on our island and in our state,’ Deadline reported.

Victorino said the design was ‘very difficult … due to the financial impacts to our local union film workers and hotel workers as well as to the film production company.

‘However, considering the recent surge in cases on our island, all parties agreed to delay the show before production began.’

The show had planned on amped-up testing of about 100 contestants and production workers in a bubble arrangement akin to how the NBA is currently operating.

The Banijay Studios North America-produced show, which is in its sixth season, had been slated to be in production thru October, the mayor said.

As of Thursday, the death total for COVID-19 – declared a public health emergency by World Health Organization – had soared to 174,201 people in the U.S. amid 5,572,538 cases, according to Johns Hopkins. 

Worldwide, 790,515 deaths have been reported among 22,539,975 reported cases.
