Coronation Street’s Sally Ann Matthews and Simon Gregson clash over charging fans for personalised video messages

Coronation Street‘s Sally Ann Matthews has clashed with her costar Simon Gregson about charging fans for personalised video messages.

The Jenny Bradley actress, 49, told a fan on social media that they should never pay for an autograph or a video from soap stars.

But Simon, who regularly sells personalised messages for £30, clearly has a different attitude.

And his wife Emma Gleave responded to Sally on Twitter, accusing her of not supporting her costars.

It kicked off when Sally was discussing autographs with a fan, and wrote: ‘We do them for free!

‘You should never pay for an autograph (or a video message come to that) x.’

Fan Suzanne Coleman responded: ‘Exactly how it should be. Making cash from birthday messages is another issue for me. Don’t get me started!’

Sally then replied: ‘Oh I hear ya.’

But Simon’s wife Emma took the comments as a dig at her husband who plays Steve McDonald.

The mother of three said: ‘Wow!!!! Nothing like sticking together with your work colleagues!’

She also wrote in other tweets which have now been deleted according to The Sun: ‘Grow a set of balls and tell ur cast members ur opinion.’

A number of the other Corrie stars also sell the videos to fans, including Ken Barlow actor William Roache and Chris Gascoyne who plays Peter Barlow.

It comes after veteran actor William revealed older cast members could return to filming in the coming weeks.

The actor, 88, said he’s ‘ready and willing’ to get back to work, after cast members over 70 were told to stay at home when production on Corrie resumed in June.

Bill, who has played Ken Barlow since the soap’s inception 60 years ago, added that he’s been told there’s a ‘lovely camaraderie’ with the cast on-set despite the strict new social distancing measures during filming

Speaking on Wedneday’s Good Morning Britain, Bill said: ‘The over 70s haven’t been called yet, I might be called after August as I’m ready and willing.

‘I hope I’ll be back. I’ve been speaking to my colleagues and they’ve said there’s a lovely camaraderie even with social distancing.’

Many of Corrie’s older stars including Barbara Knox (Rita Tanner), David Neilson (Roy Cropper) and Sue Nichols (Audrey Roberts) haven’t appeared on-screen since filming resumed after being asked to remain at home for their own safety.
