Jodie Turner-Smith has said she is starting to feel ‘at home’ in her body again since giving birth to her daughter Janie in April.

The actress, 33, took to her Instagram Stories and shared a clip of herself in a dark green crop top and matching leggings.

Showcasing her gym-honed physique, the Queen & Slim star explained she is paying close attention to her feelings, rather than the number on the scale.  

Alongside the clip, she wrote: ‘This week was the first time I started to feel like I was at home in body again. 

‘I still have a ways to go, but that feeling, NOT what the scale says, is what’s guiding me. Grateful for my body today.’

Jodie, who is married to fellow actor Joshua Jackon told how she decided on a home birth ‘because of concerns about negative birth outcomes for black women in America’.

Jodie and Joshua became parents for the first time in April when they announced the arrival of their baby daughter Janie – during the height of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. 

She told British Vogue: ‘Sometimes I wonder how I will explain to my daughter what it meant to be born in the year 2020. The historic events, the social unrest, and me – a new mother just trying to do her best.

‘I think I will tell her that it was as if the world had paused for her to be born. And that, hopefully it never quite returned to the way it was before.’

The British-born actress admitted she was ‘naive’ in early pregnancy, when she thought she would go back to work just a month after giving birth.

‘I laugh when I think back on my early pregnancy naivety, when ‘plans’ were still a thing,’ Jodie said. ‘I thought it would be feasible to move house, have a child and go back to work a month later.

‘I felt the pressure that we often place on new mothers: to get back to ‘normal’, to have what is considered a perfect post-pregnancy body – one that bears no trace of the fact that a tiny human was once held inside it and, only weeks before, passed through it.’

Jodie and Joshua have been dating since late 2018 and confirmed they had got married in December 2019.

The actress praised her husband for his support throughout her pregnancy, and said she feels ‘lucky and privileged’ to have him as a partner after they both ‘watched their own mothers struggle to raise children’.

She explained: ‘It made me realise how lucky and privileged I am to have a partner willing to follow me around the world, supporting me while I did my job.

‘Both of us had watched our own mothers struggle to raise children without such support.

‘Both of us were determined to create something for ourselves. He kept saying to me, “There’s no part of this that I’m going to miss”.’

The British-born star also revealed she and Canadian Joshua were planning on raising their baby outside of the U.S because of ‘fraught racial dynamics’ and rising ‘white supremacy’. 

Jodie explained that she did not want her child to grow up doing ‘active shooter drills’ in school.
