Dax Shepard says he was ‘was totally at blame’ after he broke four ribs and his clavicle in motorcycle accident at California racetrack

Dax Shepard was injured in a motorcycle accident at a California racetrack Monday, breaking four ribs and his clavicle.

‘I was passing six guys on Sonoma Raceway on a motorcycle and I was braking very, very hard – hard enough that the back wheel was off the ground for a good 100 yards,’ Shepard, 45, said Tuesday on his podcast, Armchair Expert.

The Milford, Michigan-born actor said he ‘was totally at blame’ in the incident and felt guilt for ‘actively doing something dangerous’ that led to the injuries.

‘I thought I would be able to slide in between, but someone turned in and I was already under full brake and I couldn’t go anywhere,’ he said. ‘I clipped their bumper and I went over the handlebars and I landed pretty hard.’

The Parenthood actor, who has two children with wife Kristen Bell, 40 – Lincoln, seven, and Delta, five – said he was ‘thoroughly yelled at’ by workers at the track for his reckless conduct.

‘They really let me have it and I was too injured to object, so I just took it on the chin,’ he said, adding that he attempted to keep riding until his injures were ‘too painful’ to endure and headed for medical attention.

He said on the Tuesday podcast: ‘I’ve been at the hospital for seven hours today: The final tally was four broken ribs, the clavicle’s broken in three places, and I need surgery.’

On the podcast, Dax – who injured his finger earlier this year off-roading – said he ‘might be willing to quit [motorcycle riding] for the remainder of 2020.’

Shepard subsequently took to Instagram with a selfie showing off his injuries and updating followers on his physical health.

The Top Gear America host said: ‘Thank you Armcherries for all the well wishes and concern. I’m in one piece and spirits are high 🙂 Sorry for causing concern.’

Bell was seen in the background of the pic, writing in the comments to Whitney Cummings that she was ‘just politely shaking my head at his nonsense.’
