Russell Crowe leaves fans terror-stricken as he channels his deranged role from thriller Unhinged

Russell Crowe left fans suitably terrified in the latest promotional video for his new heart-racing thriller, Unhinged.

Channelling the crazed character he plays in the film, the 53-year-old actor fumed about ‘conceited, pretentious f**kwads’ in a chilling video shared to Twitter on Sunday, before demanding audiences go to the cinema to watch the movie.

The short clip convinced fellow celebrities, such as actor Hugh Jackman and comedian Rove McManus, to check out the movie – while fans declared it the ‘creepiest promo’ they had ever seen.

‘I’m not f**king with you!’ Russell Crowe left fans suitably terrified in the latest promotional video for his new heart-racing thriller, Unhinged

Things started innocently enough as Russel cheerfully explained: ‘They say there’s a catalyst at the heart of the cinema experience, a social contract, and a binding dynamic power that lifts the cinematic experience into a realm of intimate connection between the audience, the screen, the stars and the heavens beyond… they say.’

Suddenly the background music turned sinister, while a few of the movie’s dramatic car chase scenes played out.

‘But who are they?’ Russel coldly quizzed. ‘Some conceited, pretentious f****** that try to p*** in your pocket and tell you it’s raining, but f*** that s***!

‘I got a movie coming out. It’s called Unhinged. Not f****** with you, it’s called… Unhinged. And it’s going to be in cinemas.’

‘Off you go,’ he added as a chilling final comment before breaking character to giggle.

Russell explained on Twitter that he was tired after being continually asked the same questions about the movie, and wanted to promote the film uniquely.

He said: ‘You know those days when you’ve done a bunch of promo, station identifications, shout outs and answered the same questions over and over and you think to yourself… let’s just have a bit of fun now #Unhinged.’

His good friend, The Greatest Showman star Hugh Jackman, appeared to be enticed by the chilling video, as he tweeted he was ‘all in’.

Comedian Rove also liked what he saw, saying: ‘I want more promos like this.’

The horrified reaction from fans also poured in with one claiming: ‘Creepiest intro I have seen in a long time.’

Another said: I don’t need to see the film, promo is enough for me!’

Someone else added: ‘Russell you have the most amazing voice, scared me just listening to you, can’t wait to see your movie in the UK.’

It was also said: ‘I’m not sorry, but my tummy did a little flip listening to your voice….cinema tickets booked!’

Speaking on the Australian Today show recently, Gladiator star Russell revealed what was actually going through his head while playing a man blinded by road rage.

‘It depends. It could be planning my bike road that I’m going to do the next morning,’ the Oscar-winning actor admitted.

‘It could be, ‘I forgot to pick up the limes for the mayonnaise for the coleslaw dressing.’ It could be many things,’ he added.

Lifting the curtain on the filming process, Russell explained: ‘Quite often what you are doing is about where the camera is.

‘And, you know, it appears to be you are a man alone in a car, but you might have 100 people surrounding you and lights and all that sort of stuff.’

Of his acting method, Russell didn’t give much away and simply said: ‘You do learn over time to refine and distill how you get to things.’
