  • Tougher stains can be removed with dish soap and bicarbonate of soda mixture

Most parents can relate to the nightmare of their children coming home with grass and food stains all over their clothes.

But former Bake Off winner Nancy Birtwhistle has shared an eco-friendly way to shift them in as little as two hours.

Taking to Instagram, Nancy showed off her ‘genius’ cleaning hack – which simply requires cold water and distilled white vinegar – in a series of short videos.

The method involves just cold water and white vinegar

Nancy, who won the fifth series of Bake Off in 2014, explained in her first video that the hack works on grass and fruit stains.

In the clip, she poured a glug of white vinegar into a bowl of water, adding that there is ‘no need’ for chemical cleaners or stain remover products.

She then said the clothes need to be soaked for between one and two hours as she filmed herself dipping trousers into the water.

If you have the time, you could alternatively leave items with stubborn stains overnight to soak.

Thirdly, she showed how the stains were dissolving after two hours.

Nancy said any residual marks can be removed by rubbing one teaspoon of dish soap and one of bicarbonate of soda into them before putting the clothes in the washing machine.

Nancy wrote alongside her post: ‘Summer Laundry Probs! Rather than reach for the stain remover spray, biological detergents or chlorine bleach – try our Eco friends.’
